Metanoia Theatre
Metanoia is an ancient Greek word meaning “A change of perception, A shift of mind. A fundamental change in thinking. A transformation”.
Metanoia is an artist-led company that creates and directs theatrical and performance experiences, diverse in both form and perspective, led by Görkem Acaroğlu, Greg Ulfan and Shane Grant.
Vision
Metanoia creates works that engage with the local and global landscape, spanning narrative theatre, digital performance, immersive experiences and live art. From subverting classic texts to creating performance installations, since 2013 Metanoia has built a repertoire of bold and brave new work.
We present work in sites and theatres around Victoria, Australia and the globe.
We privilege the transnational artists perspective.
History
From 2013 -2017 Metanoia programmed and created work for the Mechanics Institute, Brunswick when we won a tender from Moreland Council to transform the venue from a hall-for-hire into a contemporary arts space. During that time Metanoia programmed packed seasons of contemporary performance artists and companies, and created innovative programs such as Live Works which saw numerous Melbourne based artists present experimental and hybrid work across the Mechanics Institute building.
